Leg Cramps

Leg cramps can be one of the first symptomsof vein disease (superficial venous insufficiency), often occurring before the more noticeable signs of swelling or bulging veins. A dull ache or cramping of the legsoccurs after prolonged standing or is associated with menses in women. Symptoms may be localized to the inside of the leg. Severe leg cramping or painful spasms can occur at night and can bedescribed as restless leg syndrome. Painusually isrelieved by walking, elevating the leg above the heart or cooling the legs.

If leg cramps are long standing, medical evaluation for the underlying cause is recommended. Leg cramps are commonly caused by vein disease. We offer free initial consultations to evaluate leg cramps. At this time we determine whether further evaluation (ultrasound)or treatment is needed.
